The Lord Doesn’t Choose Your Mate, You Do!

To all my single sisters in Christ looking to marry, this is for you. Whether you marry, and who you marry, are spoken of in Scripture as something He allows you to choose. Biblically, this means that God grants you free will and responsibility to choose a spouse, rather than waiting for Him to bring one to you. While the Bible guides believers, the decision is a personal one based on applying wisdom and biblical principles, rather than a divine appointment. The Bible suggests that if you choose to marry, you may marry whom you wish, provided the person is a believer in Christ. In 1 Corinthians 7, the apostle Paul tells women (widows, in particular) to seriously consider singleness, but assures them the choice of whether to get married is up to them, and then specifically says women can marry “whom she wishes” as long as their potential husband is ‘in the Lord.’ (v. 39).
