"Trusting in the Sovereign God"

What does it mean to be Sovereign? The Sovereignty of God is "the biblical doctrine that all things are under God's rule and control, and that nothing happens without His direction or permission." It's not news that we live in perilous times. The continuing terrorism around the world, as well as in our own country has caused many to worry and fear. The on-going gun violence demonstrates how quickly and unexpectedly life can end. Even if we never face terrorists or gun violence, we are not exempt from accidents, sickness and disease. People are acting like brute beasts! As a Christ follower, the best way to live in this age of anxiety, with so many perils and stresses, is to develop a strong and sincere trust in the Sovereign God. It gives me great peace to know that as Sovereign, God has numbered all my days, even before I was born (Psalm 139:16)! God sovereignly ordained my life BEFORE I was conceived! If that's not absolute control, I don't know what is! In other words, my life is in the most capable of hands! Whatever comes into my life, the Father God has already filtered it! There are only two choices: either God is Sovereign over everything, including terrorism, gun violence, racism, accidents, sickness and disease, as well as perilous times, or He is not! If He is not, then the alternatives are atheism, where random impersonal chances rule the world; or dualism, where God and Satan are battling for control, but we don't know for sure who will win. Either one would be a more terrible world in which to live! But, since God is Sovereign, as Christ followers, we have a sure foundation for peace, comfort, and hope in the midst of these times. Trusting in the Sovereign God is what enables us to deal with our problems with God's power and not our own. It enables us to not allow worry and fear to dominate us. Trusting in the Sovereign God is where the invisible God becomes a conscious reality. Trusting in the Sovereign God enables us to affirm with apostle Paul, who said, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). Your move. Be encouraged!
