"The Only Cure for Unbelief is the Word of God" (Luke 16:19-31)

During my many years of walking with the Lord, I've heard many reasons why people do not believe on Jesus for salvation. One of the more common reasons is, "I would believe if I could only witness a miracle or something to that effect." It's at this point that I would share with them what Jesus said about the rich man and Lazarus. In Luke 16:19-31, Jesus said that the rich man died and went to a place called Hades. Hades is the place of the unrighteous souls awaiting final judgment at the great white throne (Revelation 20:11-15). While at this place called Hades, the rich man is speaking to Abraham about Lazarus. Verse 23 says, "In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom." In verses 27 and 28, the rich man is concerned for the salvation of his five brothers, so he asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his father's house, "that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment." Abraham tells the rich man, "They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them" (v 29). The phrase "Moses and the Prophets" refers to the Old Testament Scriptures (the Word of God). In verse 30, the rich man responds by saying, "No, father Abraham, but if SOMEONE GOES TO THEM FROM THE DEAD, they will repent!" According to the rich man, if his brothers could only witness a miracle, (someone rising from among the dead), they'd believe on Jesus! But Abraham corrects his thinking in verse 31 by saying, "If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, THEY WILL NOT BE PERSUADED EVEN IF SOMEONE RISES FROM THE DEAD." The phrase, "They will not be persuaded" speaks volumes. Only the Word of God is sufficient to overcome unbelief! The gospel alone is the power of God to remove unbelief and to bring salvation. No amount of evidences will ever turn unbelief to trust. Only God's Word has the power to do so! Look to it! Believe in it! Make your stand on it! It will never disappoint you! Your move. Be encouraged!
