Seeing The Lord High and Lifted Up (Isaiah 6:1-3).

This vision of the heavenly King, the sovereign of the universe, came in the same year of this earthly king's death. King Uzziah was a godly king. God used him to make many godly reforms among the children of Israel. With the king's death, things could go back to the way they were before Uzziah began his godly reign. This was a critical time, one that not only involved the death of a godly king, but also one that foresaw the death of a nation as it turned away from following the Lord. As I consider our nation and see what's taking place on every front, it can be a little frightening, frustrating, and discouraging. We're seeing the influx of false teachers and their messages in the church; the tremendous rise of "alternative" ways to God; the calling of evil as good and the calling of good as evil; the unisex issue; the abortion problem; the drug and alcohol problem; the gay movement that has become politically powerful and assertive; senseless gun violence; racism; corruption in politics and business; an almost complete loss of moral values; the break up of the family; and the failure of the church to make a significant difference! But in the midst of the problems of Isaiah's time, he was given a vision, one that as Christ followers we need perhaps more than Isaiah did! What did Isaiah see? Our text says, "I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted" (v. 1). Now get a grip on this: Isaiah actually saw God on His throne! Can you imagine anything more glorious? The word, "sitting" describes the position of a king who is actively reigning! In other words, if a politician is "seated," he is said to be in office. If an unelected official is put out of office, he is said to be "unseated!" Isaiah sees God "seated," meaning He is actively carrying out the duties of His reign over all the affairs of His creation! It's easy to ask, "God are You still in control?" As we see our world falling apart all around us we must all be reminded that God is doing something! He has not resigned. He has not been impeached, neither put out of office! He's not even up for reelection! There are no term limits to Him being God! Praise God forevermore! Have you looked up lately to see God still upon His throne? Have you come to understand that His sovereign throne controls the events of your life? Get a vision of the Lord, high and lifted up!
