He Chose Us "Before The Foundation Of The World" (Ephesians 1:4)

As Christ followers, we must understand and embrace that the blessing of salvation is part of God's eternal plan to bring glory to Himself! In verse four, Paul adds that God chose us "before the foundation of the world." Paul is talking about God's plan for the ages to glorify Himself through His plan of salvation and that plan was "before the foundation of the world" How awesome is that? How wonderful is that? What a mighty God we serve! It's inconceivable that the all-knowing, all-wise Creator of the universe would bring the world into being and place people on it without some kind of predetermined plan for the ages! We'd rightly say that any builder who attempted to construct a building without any kind of plan in mind beforehand and without any ability to bring to pass his unplanned building was inept and foolish. Surely, then, God did not create the universe without such a plan and the ability to carry out that plan! Recall Isaiah's words about God when he said, "My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure," (Isa. 46:10). God would not leave such an important plan dependent on the depraved and rebellious will of humans! And, because of this, when mankind fell into sin, God did not say, "Oh no, now I have to adjust or modify My plan!" If God had done so, then He'd be a changeable being, not the unchangeable Sovereign of all that is! And, if God is not sovereignly in control of all events, who can know whether He may have to alter His plan again in the future? How could we even know whether His promises and plan would finally prevail, if He's not sovereign over all things, including the evil actions of men? Brothers and sisters, the phrase, "before the foundation of the world," is written for our assurance and comfort, so that we'll bless God for His choosing us! It means that you and I were not merely afterthoughts in the mind of God! It means that God set His love on us long before we ever existed or even before the world existed! It means that we could never frustrate the plan of God for our lives! I don't know about you, but right now is a good time to shout, "Praise God Forevermore, Hallelujah!" If our salvation depends on our choice of God, we can never be assured of it. But, if it depends on God's choice of us before He created the world, then it's a sure thing! We can count on it! The God who planned our salvation before the foundation of the world will bring it to completion! Planning to save us before the foundation of the world brings glory to God! Your move. Be encouraged!
