What kind of body will it be? Paul says, “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44). In this passage, Paul gives some specific answers concerning what kind of body it will be. He gives four sets of contrasts showing the vastly improved difference between our present and glorified bodies. Paul teaches: It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body. The resurrected body will not be subject to decay and death. It’ll be free from every process that leads to death. Even as I write these words, our bodies are decaying, and subject to aging, disease, and death. Paul teaches: It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. The dissolution of the human body when committed to the grave is the ultimate humiliation for humans who were crowned with glory and honor to rule God’s creation (Psalm 8:5; Hebrews 2:7, 9). Believers will receive that exalted rank again when their bodies are raised to newness of life. Paul writes that Jesus will transform our humiliated bodies to conform them to His glorious body (Philippians 3:21). Paul teaches: It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. A corpse in the grave is the perfect example of weakness. The weakness which belonged to it in life, has matured ending in death. The resurrection body will have supernatural power with faculties of which we have now no conception. Every believer will have a body possessed of incorruptibility, glory and power. Paul teaches: It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. Our naturally-born frames are of the earth and cannot exist in the realm of eternity. The spiritual body revealed by the resurrection exists easily in eternity. The resurrection body is spiritual in the sense that it fits into the spiritual realm while still having a solid, physical form. Jesus' body after the resurrection is an example of this. He could be seen, heard, and touched (John 20:24–29), and He could eat (Luke 24:36–43). He could also, apparently, move through solid objects (John 20:19). He had been raised into His spiritual, glorified body, as will every believer in Christ. Be encouraged!
