From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. After reading the teaching on “What’s the biblical meaning of Psalm 37:4?” someone asked me, “How do I delight in the Lord?” My guess is there are many more with this same question! What does delighting in God look like? Let’s answer it! We have to get to know Him well (intimately)! In other words, delighting in God requires getting intimate with Him. Though God is eternal, immortal, invisible, and beyond full comprehension with our human, finite mind, He is knowable. And He wants to be known: “But let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 9:24). We need to know God’s likes and dislikes, His preferences, His habits, His character, His nature. The phrase, "intimate knowledge" underscores and highlights the importance of a comprehensive knowing of God, going beyond superficial or fleeting insights. This understanding involves examining His Word, contemplating His character, and experiencing His presence in a meaningful way. If someone were to ask me, “Tell me about your father,” I could rattle off a description of my dad without missing a beat. The same needs to be true if someone asks, “Tell me about God the Father.” Brothers and sisters, an in-depth knowledge of God is the fountain into which all rivers of delight in Him flow. A deep and thorough understanding of God is the source from which all joy, pleasure, and delight in Him originate and flow. Our delight in God is not merely an emotional experience, but is rooted in our knowledge and understanding of His character, attributes, and relationship with us. Be encouraged! Stay tuned for Part Two!
