From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. I am a lover of books! I’m a voracious reader. I’ve always loved to read. However, over the years, I have collected more and more books. I have a large volume of books. Unfortunately, I haven’t made the time to read nearly as many of the books as I’ve collected! They remain very interesting, and sadly unread. Here’s my point. There’s a real danger that our Bibles can become like that! Pulitzer Prize winner and American novelist, poet, and short story writer, John Hoyer Updike speaking of Henry David Thoreau’s classic work, “Walden,” commented that it risked being as “revered and unread as the Bible.” In other words, we struggle to read the Bible regularly. There are a plethora reasons for this. However, whatever the reason, it doesn’t have to be that way! As the psalmist does in Psalm 119, we can turn to God for the help we need. He says, “Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law” (Psalm 119:18). This is a prayer for spiritual illumination, asking God to remove the veil of spiritual blindness so the psalmist can see and understand the deep, hidden truths and wonders within God's Word. He revere’s God’s Word. The Bible is a priceless gift! It’s so precious that its value cannot be determined. For this reason, the Bible should be both revered (deeply respected) and read! Be encouraged!
