From the heart of Dr. R. L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. Let me speak to all of my brothers and sisters in Christ. What does it mean to live with an eternal perspective? That’s a great question! Let’s answer it by examining what God says to us in the Bible! Living with an eternal perspective means viewing life through the lens of eternity, understanding and embracing that our actions and choices have long-lasting consequences and focusing on what truly matters in the grand scheme of things, rather than just the present. Living with an eternal perspective means recognizing the transient nature of time! It involves understanding that our earthly lives are fleeting and that our true purpose and destiny lie beyond this mortal existence. Recognizing the brevity of earthly life and the existence of a purpose beyond it can lead to a deeper understanding of our existence and a renewed focus on spiritual growth and eternal values. What I am saying is we need to ask Jesus to open our eyes to what’s at stake—to the unseen world and the reality of our eternal destination. Unfortunately, many of us have perspectives which see no further than the horizons of this world. It’s called being short-sighted. Living with an eternal perspective involves cultivating a spiritual mindset that allows us to see the world and our place in it from a broader, more meaningful perspective. If you are short-sighted, you will have trouble seeing objects clearly in the distance and they will be difficult to see. To correct our spiritual shortsightedness, God prescribes a vision correction that allows us to look through the lens of eternity. Suddenly we realize this present life is but a brief window of opportunity to invest in what will last for eternity. James teaches us, “Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). Be encouraged!
