I can do all things through a verse taken out of context!

The verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) is often taken out of context and used to mean that Christians are empowered to accomplish any task. However, the verse actually refers to a believer’s ability to endure hardship and persecution, and to be content in any situation. Reading the Bible in context means understanding the ideas and themes that the author was thinking about when writing. Out of context, Philippians 4:13 is used as a blank-check promise for whatever is desired. But in context, it is a verse about contentment. It's not about your dreams coming true or your goals being met. Philippians 4:10–20 describes how Christians can overcome worry and worldly desires, regardless of their circumstances. Be encouraged!
