From the desk of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Expositor & Teacher. The writer says, “How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103). These words describe the psalmist’s profound joy and delight in God’s Word! He finds it more satisfying and enjoyable than any earthly pleasure. He’s persuading the reader by purposely evoking certain emotions to make them feel the way he feels about God’s Word. The psalmist uses the metaphor of “sweeter than honey” to convey the immense pleasure and satisfaction he finds in God’s Word. In other words, the Word of God is exceptionally delightful, pleasant, and satisfying! It’s something that brings great joy or comfort! Just as honey is a natural sweetener, God’s Word is a source of spiritual nourishment and joy. This is a powerful visual image! The phrase “to my taste” suggests that the psalmist is not just intellectually engaging with God’s Word, but experiencing it with a deep, intimate and personal appreciation. The psalmist’s delight in God’s Word leads to a desire to obey and understand it. What do you say? Be encouraged!
