Humility Before the Mystery of God

From the heart of Dr. R. L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. This teaching concerns God’s sovereignty vs evil and injustice. Evil and injustice is pervasive in our world. It’s widely spread and noticeable everywhere. The temptation is to question why God allows it to continue. The concept of God's sovereignty over evil and injustice is a complex theological issue. Let me say that in the face of such profound truths, humility is essential. Isaiah 55:8-9 states that God's thoughts and ways are higher and different from those of humans. It emphasizes that God's perspective and plans are far grander and more expansive than what humans can conceive. As finite creatures, we cannot fully understand or comprehend God’s ways. However Calvary gives a lens through which we can trust His character, wisdom, and justice. In other words, if God’s greatest act of redemption came through the greatest act of evil and injustice, we can trust that He is working even through the pain and chaos we see and experience today. The Bible indicates that God allows evil to exist for His own purposes. This means as sovereign, God has ultimate authority and control over all creation. This includes the ability to work through both injustice and evil for His purposes. In the end, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10-11). All people will, one day, admit that He is God and the Christ. God's preference is that this happens in life, while there is a chance for salvation (2 Peter 3:9), rather than after death, when it is too  late (Revelation 20:15). Be encouraged to rest in our sovereign God!
