From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. What does it mean to follow Jesus? Following Jesus involves a conscious choice to prioritize His teachings and values over the world’s norms and values, which should lead to a divergence from worldly paths. Here’s a more detailed explanation: Following Jesus means aligning one’s life with His teachings and example, embracing His values as one's own. It involves a daily commitment to self-denial and a willingness to sacrifice personal desires and ambitions for the sake of following Christ. This signifies a willingness to endure hardship and persecution for one's faith, as Jesus Himself faced. Following Jesus means living a life of faith, trust, and obedience to God’s will, even when it’s difficult or not popular. Jesus encourages His followers to remain in His love, which means allowing God’s love to filter every thought, feeling, and action. Examples in Scripture: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you” (John 15:18-21). We read, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Paul teaches, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2). Your move! Be encouraged!
