Does God Exist?

From the desk of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D. For those who question the existence of God, let’s look at the evidence of human experience. People interpret life based on the world around them. So, considering the existence of God ought to include and begin with experiences. Afterwards, we can use logic to assess those views. The Bible reveals that evidence of God exists in daily human experiences (Romans 1:19–20; Psalm 19:1; Ecclesiastes 3:11). Paul speaks of the entire world having knowledge of God, and therefore, being without excuse for not believing in Him. Paul says this: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). Why does the Bible teach that every person knows of God’s existence? How is God revealed? What are the evidences of His existence? The reason Scripture does not argue the existence of God is because God has made Himself known to all of mankind. Theologians and Bible scholars use the word, “revelation” when speaking of God making Himself known. God has revealed Himself to man, and therefore, man is without excuse for not believing in Him (Romans 1:20). Paul reminds the reader that God’s invisible attributes “have been clearly seen being understood through what has been made.” It is remarkable that something invisible—unseeable by definition—has been clearly seen in creation. But God’s creation reveals His invisible attributes (Romans 1:20). God’s eternal power and divine nature are evident through what He has made. In other words God’s creation reveals much about God. We gain knowledge of who He is by examining His creation. When we observe the over 100 billion galaxies, we see the glory and might of God. When we study the intricacies of a living cell, we see the intelligence and skill of God. When we consider the 60,000 miles of blood vessels strategically placed in the human body, we see the wisdom and forethought of God. These qualities are understandable through observing creation, and for that reason, no one has an excuse not to believe. Suppressing the truth is unrighteous (Romans 1:19) because God has made the truth of who He is obvious to all. Be encouraged!
