From the desk of Dr. R. L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Expositor & Teacher. Paul teaches, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). These powerful qualities are essential for living a life of integrity, as they promote honesty, trustworthiness, and uprightness (integrity). Living with integrity in a world where the corrupt are favored, not to mention our battle with our own sin nature, is challenging! In the Bible, “integrity” means “honesty and adherence to a pattern of good works.” Being led by and keeping in step with the Holy Spirit is associated with developing and maintaining integrity, as it fosters a life aligned with God’s principles and encourages honesty and uprightness. When we are led by the Holy Spirit, we are more likely to make decisions and actions that align with God's will and principles, which often involve honesty, righteousness, and integrity. The Holy Spirit can act as a guide and a source of conscience, prompting us to do what is right and avoid what is wrong, which is crucial for maintaining integrity. The Holy Spirit helps us overcome the desires of the flesh, which can lead to dishonesty and compromise our integrity. Jesus, who was led by the Spirit, exemplified integrity in His life and teachings, demonstrating the importance of living a life of honesty and uprightness. Spiritual integrity is about being honest with oneself and with God, and living a life that reflects one’s values and beliefs. It means that if our private life were suddenly exposed, we’d have no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed. It means that our outward life is consistent with our inner convictions (values and beliefs). Be encouraged to being people of integrity!
