In this teaching, we’ll examine the “position” of the biblical man. Understanding the man’s priority in creation not only points to him being designed as the foundation of the human family, but also that he was the very first to be positioned on earth in accordance with God’s purposes. For that reason, the man was the first to have a relationship with God. He was the first to fellowship with God. He was the first to receive instructions from God. What was the man’s position? We read, “The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed” (Genesis 2:8). The man was positioned in the surroundings where he was to carry out God’s purposes for him. This means that in order for the man to carry out his reason for being, he was to remain in Eden! What was Eden like? The word “Eden” means “delicate,” “delight,” or “pleasure.” The word “garden” means “something enclosed.” However, because everything influencing heaven influenced Eden, this was no standard garden! Eden was a place of heaven on earth! The glory of God was connected to this place. The glory of God often represents or manifests His special, tangible presence, conveying His overwhelming power, majesty, and worth. What does all this mean? It means that the primary purpose of the biblical man is that of being in the presence of God! God has not changed His mind concerning the biblical man. He is to remain in God’s presence. We read, “Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die” (Genesis 2:15-17). The man is presented as being in fellowship with God! The garden of Eden was the place where fellowship, oneness, and communication with God remained intact! Be encouraged!
