The answer to our question is YES! In light of the important questions that these religions claim to address, locating the truth is extremely important! Would you agree? The issues that I'm speaking about are; mankind, life, death, and eternity. In search of the truth, one has to understand that any and all claims of being true can and must be examined! For example, if a religion states that it originated at a specific time and place, evidence from history can and should be examined to determine the truthfulness of such a claim. Accuracy must be found. Also, in searching for the truth, one must be open to where the proof takes them, even when it contradicts any preconceived bias! In other words, our decisions regarding the truth must be determined by what's true and not our bias! Religions should be judged and analyzed by cumulative facts. Arguments for or against are to be judged based on what's observed. Proof is to be observed and a decision is to be made. This is where our faith is to be based. What does Christianity claim? It claims the miracles and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Basically, if the Lord died and returned from among those who are dead, then the resurrection clearly divides Him from the rest of humanity, providing irrefutable evidence that He's the Son of God! If this is not true, Christianity can't be a true religion. If there is no resurrection, then Jesus is dead! Central to the Christian faith is the bodily resurrection of Jesus! By recording the resurrection appearances, the New Testament leaves no doubt about this event! In 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, Paul gives us evidence he said were of "first importance" (verse 3) concerning these things, that "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as one untimely born, He appeared to me also" (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). Our evidence is: "Jesus died, Jesus returned to life, Jesus appeared to many eyewitnesses, Jesus appeared to Paul." We'll continue in the next lesson. Be encouraged!
