This passage teaches the doctrine of the eternal security of the Christ follower! Peter says, "Who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:5). The word "protected" means "to be shielded" or "to guard." What is Peter saying about our inheritance as well as our great salvation? He's telling us that it's being guarded by "the power of God!" If that's not eternal security, I don't know what is! Being protected by God's power means being secure in Christ! Doesn't this cause you to worship God and have joy? If a person is truly born again, he or she will never lose their salvation! How can we lose anything that's being shielded, protected, kept, and guarded by the power of God? What did Jesus say about this doctrine? Let's examine His words. He says, "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day" (John 6:37-39). This passage shows that all who come to Jesus are eternally secure because both the Father and the Son keep them! Jesus said it's the will of His Father that He would not lose any that comes to Him! Examining the phrases, "I will certainly not cast out," and "I lose nothing" points to the security, preservation, and perfect protection of all who have been given eternal life! When has Jesus ever failed to do His Father's will? He said never! What is His Father's will in this passage? Jesus said His Father's will was, "I lose nothing!" Speaking of Christ, John said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one is able to snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one" (John 10:27-30). The phrase, "they will never perish" speaks to the security of the Christ follower's salvation because losing salvation means to perish! We're eternally held by the Father and the Son! Hallelujah, praise God forevermore! Be encouraged about God's great salvation!
