Over the years, many believers in Christ have said to me, “Dr. Robert, I have no desire to read the Bible, but I do desire to know and love God more. The points of emphasis are as follows: Loving God is seen in loving His Word. That’s because Scripture is not only information, but God’s gracious self-revelation. Psalm 119 presents God’s Word as delight, wisdom, and guidance. Love for God’s Word grows through time, faithfulness, and daily dependence on God. What does this mean? Biblically, loving God changes how you love ("loving different") by shifting love from a conditional, selfish emotion to an unconditional, selfless, and sacrificial action known as agape (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-8). Loving God means loving from a place of overflow rather than empty need, enabling you to show grace, forgiveness, and service to others—even enemies—because your heart is refined by God's own love. In a biblical context, the phrase "human experiences often shape spiritual perceptions" refers to the way life events—joys, sufferings, and daily routines—act as lenses through which people perceive God's presence, nature, and purpose.
