Why are so many people offended by God’s truth?

People are often offended by biblical truth because it acts as a "two-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12) that exposes personal sin, challenges human pride, and demands repentance. It is perceived as restrictive, exclusive, and contrary to personal desires, rather than just comforting, which forces a confrontation with uncomfortable realities. The New Testament uses the word offense, stumbling block, or snare to describe how the Gospel message traps or triggers a negative reaction in those who refuse to submit to it. Biblical truths often challenge personal lifestyles and deeply held beliefs, forcing a choice between repentance or rejection of the truth. In essence, biblical truth is rarely neutral; it demands a response, which frequently results in discomfort or anger. Be encouraged!
