There is something about that name, Jesus!

From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D. Philippians 2:5–11 is a poetic description of Jesus’ willingness to humble Himself for our sake. Rather than coming first as God and King, Jesus freely took on the form of a human being. He was humiliated and oppressed, following the will of the Father, in order to be the sacrifice for our sins. As a result, “Jesus”' will be given the ultimate glory and honor. Eventually, all people, whether they want to or not, will admit that Jesus the Christ is, in fact, Lord. For some, this will happen too late. Paul tells us, “So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11). Let’s understand and embrace that Paul is telling us, “There’s something about that name, Jesus!” On that day, Paul says, Isaiah’s prophecy (Isaiah 2:17) will be completely fulfilled. Every knee will bow. It doesn’t matter if it’s a creature in heaven, a human on earth, or subterranean dwellers – all knees will be bent. But it won’t be just their knees that submit; their tongues will submit as well. Everyone will confess that Jesus the Christ is Lord to God’s glory. Thank God, Jesus is the reason for the season. Yes, thank God! He brings hope to both bleak and bustling lives, for those of us in the darkness and those who’ve simply forgotten to slow down and enjoy the presence and love of our Savior. Jesus is the sweetest name that I know! Be encouraged!
