Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful” (John 14:27). The peace of God provides a supernatural sense of calm, hope, and mental/emotional guard, allowing believers to trust God through difficulties rather than succumbing to anxiety, fear, or worry. This internal peace, rooted in one's connection with Jesus, offers comfort, strengthens resolve, and serves as a testimony to others of God's presence and power in life's circumstances. This passage is Jesus' farewell promise to His disciples, conveying an inner, supernatural peace that is distinct from and superior to the superficial peace the world offers. Jesus explicitly states that the peace He gives is “not as the world gives.” Worldly peace often depends on external circumstances, such as the absence of difficulty, and is therefore fleeting and unstable. The peace that Jesus gives offers a deep sense of tranquility, calm, and stability that can be maintained even amidst life's external difficulties and turmoil. The verse is meant to encourage believers, reassuring them that their hearts should not be troubled or afraid, as they can find true peace and comfort in their relationship with Jesus and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, for peace is a fruit He provides (Galatians 5:22). The primary purpose of this promise is to offer comfort and reassurance to the disciples (and believers today) in the face of uncertainty and future challenges. It's an invitation to experience an inner peace that transcends fear and trouble, allowing believers to remain steady and confident even when facing difficult situations. In essence, John 14:27 is a divine promise that encourages Christians to trust in the Lord Jesus for an enduring, internal peace that is not dependent on the fluctuating conditions of the world. It doesn’t get any better than that! Be encouraged!
