While Adam was created in God’s likeness (Genesis 5:1), now with a sinful nature, he became the father of a son not in God’s likeness, but in his own (Adam’s) likeness (Genesis 5:3). While people after the fall retain a remnant of the divine image (Genesis 9:6; James 3:9), they also contain the image (sinful nature) of their parents, born in sin. Paul teaches us, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). The verse establishes Adam's one act of disobedience as the catalyst for a fallen human condition, resulting in a universal inheritance of a sinful nature and mortality. This introduction of sin and death is then contrasted with God's grace in Jesus, which offers redemption from this inherited condition. Only in Jesus can the image of God be restored to us! We NEED Jesus! Be encouraged!
