From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. This phrase speaks to the truth of what it means to live in this world. The phrase “Change is inevitable, growth is not” means that change will happen regardless, but whether you learn and grow from it is a choice you make. It highlights that while you cannot control change, you can determine how you respond and whether to use it as an opportunity for development. Change is inevitable! This part of the phrase acknowledges that change is a constant in life. It's something that happens whether you like it or not, and you can't always prevent it. Change doesn’t ask permission, it just arrives! Embrace it or resist it, either way, it shapes your life. Growth is not! This is the key point. The phrase emphasizes that while change is unavoidable, the decision to grow and develop from it is entirely up to you. You can choose to resist change, get overwhelmed by it, or you can choose to use it as a catalyst for learning and personal growth. In essence, the phrase encourages a proactive and growth-oriented mindset in the face of change, emphasizing that you are not just a passive recipient of events but an active participant in your own development. Scripture indicates that personal growth is a part of a healthy spiritual life. We participate in our spiritual growth by keeping in step with the Holy Spirit. Paul reminds us, “'But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). In the same breath, Paul mentions, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). Be encouraged!
