When I speak about confident witnesses, I'm talking about those who are assured that a thing is certain or true. Let's examine our text. It says, "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus" (Acts 4:12-13). What is it that we notice about these confident witnesses? What were these witnesses assured of? They were certain of the truth that Jesus Christ is the ONLY Savior and Redeemer! They were certain that there's no other power and authority by which salvation can come! As a Christ follower, are you a confident witness? What else do we notice about these confident witnesses? According to Dr. Luke, confident witnesses are those who spend much time with Jesus and continue to learn from Him! Luke says, "they were amazed" as they observed Peter and John's boldness, especially since "they were uneducated and untrained men." Peter and John were far from being "uneducated and untrained men!" Being "untrained and uneducated" refers to not being trained in the rabbinical schools of the Pharisees and Sadducees. We also notice that the boldness of Peter and John reminded the council of the boldness of Jesus Christ, who, by the way, also was not educated in their schools! This is an awesome compliment for others to see that we're like Jesus because we spend time with Him! Many times we say that we desire to be like Jesus, but we have misconceptions about what Jesus was like. Jesus was a confident and bold witness! On more than one occasion, Jesus confronted the Scribes and Pharisees! My point is, if we're going to be like Jesus, we will be confident witnesses who confront religious hypocrisy and unsound doctrine. We won't be rude or mean because we'll have the fruit of the Spirit of God, including gentleness and kindness. But we will have spent the time with our Lord to learn from Him the importance of speaking out when the truth of God is being compromised! We'll do this because we'll fear God more than we fear being politically incorrect or what others think about us! Your move. Be confident!
