"The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But The Truth" (John 14:6)

Let's talk about the mother of all politically incorrect statements. Any idea of what that statement is? Are you ready? The statement is this: "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me" (John 14:6). Let me say that this statement is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! Praise God forevermore! Why is this statement politically incorrect? It's because the world in which we live is based on the view that there's no absolute truth in the world. We're living in the age of tolerance, where anything goes! Tolerance has become preeminent. When our culture cries for tolerance, they're not asking you to simply tolerate and get along with their opposing beliefs. The fact is that they're asking you to compromise your beliefs. As one writer has put it, "Tolerance has become so important that no exception is tolerated." Repeating the words of Jesus in John 14:6 causes many to spew forth accusations like "intolerant," "narrow-minded," "hateful," and "mean-spirited." It quickly becomes apparent that the greatest atrocity in our culture is intolerance! A person may have his or her religion, and may believe it, but he or she has no right to try to persuade another of his or her belief. Why? Because what you're saying is that your belief is correct and theirs is not! This is the supreme act of intolerance! But what about John 14:6? With these words, Jesus props Himself up and drops all His competition. Jesus doesn't say, "I am a way, and a truth, and a life." He's insisting, "I am THE way, and THE truth, and THE life." Jesus is not only saying He's the way to heaven, He's also saying He's the ONLY way! That means you can't get there any other way, because they all fall short. You can't get there by being good. You can't get there by being religious. You can't get there by being sincere. You can't get there by ceremony, pedigree or knowledge. There's absolutely no other way than through Jesus! In John 14:6, Jesus doesn't merely point to the way, He is the way. Jesus doesn't just teach us truth, He is the truth. Jesus doesn't represent one avenue to life, He is the life! This is an absolute truth, an exclusive claim that can't be compromised! Simply put, the human search for God ends in the Lord Jesus Christ. For the Christ follower, it's not about being politically correct, but about being biblically correct! Be encouraged!
