Please take notice of what Paul said and did not say. He said that God has blessed us (Christ followers) with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places! He did not say that God has blessed us with every physical or material blessing on earth! Take a moment to reflect on those words. There's a modern heresy which teaches its followers that it is the will of God for all Christ followers to be healthy and wealthy in this life. The false teachers of this cult live in huge mansions, drive very expensive cars, travel in private jets, and indulge themselves in every flagrant luxury that they can, while luring their gullible followers with promises of the same. The teaching is not biblical and completely anti-Christian! While the Father God does promise to meet our basic physical needs, He knows that our deepest and most pressing need is spiritual! God knows that our deepest need is to be reconciled to Him! So He blesses us with every SPIRITUAL blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Some of you may be thinking, "But isn't this impractical? How are we to apply spiritual blessings to our lives right now? What good are spiritual blessings to me if I can not live comfortably in this life? Are not those who focus on heavenly blessings not much earthly good? My answer is hardly! If that were the case, somebody should've told apostle Paul about it! It was Paul who wrote the following words to the Christ followers at Colossae, "Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth," (Col. 3:1-2). If for some reason you're still thinking, "But this is not practical," bear in mind that when apostle Paul wrote this letter, he was in prison! Every time he moved he could feel, see, and hear the chains that were around his wrist and his ankle! Paul could've been discouraged and complaining about the circumstances that he was in! Paul could've said, "Man I don't need spiritual blessings right now! They're not practical. I need to get out of this awful prison and have my physical needs met!" But, that is not what Paul did. Instead, he breaks into this doxology, praising and worshipping God for giving him every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ! If understanding and embracing those blessings could sustain Paul in a Roman prison, far from home, and give him the hope that he's expressing, then this stuff is about as practical as one can get! It will sustain us in whatever difficult and trying times we face! Praise God forevermore! Your move. Be encouraged!
