"The Election did not Take God by Surprise!"

The 2016 Presidential Election is over. Donald Trump has been elected to succeed President Barack Obama. Donald Trump's election has shocked and surprised many, many people. However, God Almighty was not surprised. God Almighty was not shocked. God was the One who allowed it to take place. The Bible teaches that whoever is in authority, the success and failure of any nation's leaders take place under the sovereign eye of God. The prophet Daniel said it best with these words, "Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him. It is He who changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and establishes kings" (Daniel 2:20-21). As Christ followers, it's God that we must look to. No man or woman can fix the problems that face our country because America as well as any other country is deeply stained with sin. Only the Lord God can bring the needed change for this country and for this reason we're called to pray for Donald Trump that despite his flaws and shortcomings God would use him for His glory and honor! We're called to pray he might see his need for Jesus and as a result, embrace the gospel. Apostle Paul said, "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God" (Romans 13:1). Let's examine what Paul is teaching. He uses the phrase, "be in subjection." This phrase was used of a soldier's absolute obedience to a superior officer. The Bible makes one exception to this command: when that obedience requires disobedience to the Word of God (Exodus 1:17; Daniel 3:16-18; 6:7,10). What about the phrase, "governing authorities?" This means every person of civil authority without regard to competency, morality or reasonableness (1 Timothy 2:1,2; Titus 3:1,2). Paul says, "there is no authority except from God" This speaks of God's sovereign rule and control over all that is! As I said earlier, the Word of God teaches that whoever is in authority, the success or failure of any nation's leaders happen under the sovereign eye of God! If Trump was elected by anything other than God allowing it, then God is not sovereign! For God not to be sovereign, He'd have to stop being God. That's never going to happen! Just a friendly reminder! Your move. Be encouraged!
