‍From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible teacher & expositor. As I was meditating on a passage recently, a thought occurred to me: “I am nothing except what You are through me.” We love to pose and posture. We love to talk about our accomplishments and achievements. But the reality is nothing we do would be possible if not for God. He created us, gave us our skills and abilities, provided our wisdom, and nurtured our development. The phrase “Without God, I am nothing” reflects a belief in dependence on God for meaning, purpose, and identity. It suggests that without God's influence or presence, a person's life lacks intrinsic value, significance, or ability to accomplish anything meaningful. This perspective is rooted in Scripture and emphasizes a Creator-creation relationship. Jesus says, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). This verse highlights the idea that believers are spiritually dependent on Christ for their ability to live a fruitful and meaningful life. Without being connected to Jesus, they are seen as incapable of producing spiritual fruit. The phrase “Without God, I am nothing” is a statement about depending on God for existence, meaning, and purpose. It emphasizes a belief that without God's influence, life would lack intrinsic value and direction. From this day forward, make it all about Jesus. We are nothing except what He is through us. Be encouraged!
