What does Paul mean by “putting on” the full armor of God? (Part Two)

We read, “Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (Ephesians 6:14). The belt of truth relates to Jesus by being the foundation of the Christian faith. Jesus, Himself said these words, “Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). Truth is not just an abstract concept, but a person—Jesus Christ himself. He is seen as the ultimate and unchanging source of truth, revealing the nature of God and offering freedom from misconceptions, confusion, and falsehoods. His teachings, character, and divine nature are considered the definitive standard for all truth. The belt of truth is listed first as it represents the importance of grounding one's faith in God's truth, which comes from Jesus and the Bible. By “wearing this belt,” believers are protected against lies and can stand firm in their faith during life’s challenges. We need a firm and settled conviction in biblical truth and teaching to stand against believing the devil's lies for truth. We can't stand against the father of lies (the devil) while believing his lies! The breastplate of righteousness relates to Jesus because it is His righteousness that enables us to be the “righteousness of God in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:21). This means that a believer is declared righteous in God's eyes not through their own actions, but by God crediting Jesus' perfect life and sacrificial death to them. The breastplate of righteousness is the foundation for a believer's right standing with God and their ability to grow in a practical, lived-out righteousness. It encompasses their mind, emotions, and will, and is the center of their thoughts, desires, and intentions. Be encouraged!
