From the desk of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D. Apostle John writes, (1) “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (2) Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. (3) And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:1-3). The summary of this passage calls attention to the amazing love God has for believers. Does God love everyone? Yes, He does. He shows mercy and kindness to all. Does God love believers more than He loves non-believers? No, not in regard to His merciful love. Does God love believers in a different way than He loves non-believers? Yes, He does. That’s because believers have exercised faith in God’s Son, they are saved. God has a unique relationship with believers in that only believers have forgiveness based on God’s eternal grace. For that reason, not only is He willing to call believers His children, believers actually are His children! God could have saved us without calling us His children! Some of the change that has taken place is immediate, but everything we will be hasn’t been revealed, yet! At the powerful rapture event, when Jesus returns to take us to the Father’s house (see John 14:1-3), will we see everything He has in store for us. Be encouraged! Stay tuned for part two!
