From the heart of Dr. R. L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. I’ve discovered that one of the most crucial lessons to learn as a disciple of Jesus is how to deal with pain and suffering. In this fallen world, suffering is inevitable. It may be the physical suffering that goes with living in these frail bodies that get sick and die. It may be the emotional pain and grief of watching a loved one suffer and die. It may be problems stemming from your own sin or from others’ sins against you. It may be the common pressures of life, of providing a living and wondering how you’re going to pay all the bills. It may be the emotional suffering of struggling with feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, anger, worry, or fear. But wherever it comes from, suffering is a certainty. And, it will make you grow bitter or better, depending on how you handle it. We’re to  handle it by trusting in the faithfulness of God. The Bible speaks often of God’s faithfulness. Time and time again we learn that when God says He will do something, He does it (even when it seems impossible). When He says something will happen, it happens. This is true for the past, the present and the future. If this were not the case—if God were unfaithful even once—He would not be God, and we could not rely on any of His promises! But as it is, “Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised; not one word has failed of all His good promise, which He promised through Moses His servant” (1 Kings 8:56). God is eternally reliable, steadfast, and unwavering because faithfulness is one of His inherent attributes. In short, God's faithfulness is a powerful force in our lives, enabling us to overcome fear, experience His presence, trust in His promises, face trials, and find assurance in His help. When we make the choice to trust in God's faithfulness and lean on Him in all things, we can experience a deep sense of peace and joy that transcends all understanding. Be encouraged!
