The Opposition of MAGA & Biblical Christianity (Part Two)

The MAGA rhetoric is not new! It’s been a part of American history. It’s the false and dangerous belief that the kingdom of God can be advanced through worldly political associations and alliances. Jesus said very clearly to Pilate (a politician) “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm” (John 18:36). Attempts to join MAGA with Christianity walks in the same footsteps of trying to advance God’s kingdom via worldly political associations. It sanctifies lies and nationalism as the German Christians did. It justifies exclusion and contempt for the stranger as the Southern Baptist churches along with Jim Crow politics once did. Countless churches covered themselves in the language of Christianity while defending slavery, segregation and white supremacy. The Bible was twisted to serve prejudice. Pulpits resounded with messages that bore the name of Christ but denied His character. MAGA has not been subtle about their attacks on immigrants or the Civil Rights Movement and its legacies. However, each time in history, Christians discovered—often too late—that they had been deceived into betraying the very Gospel they professed. Be discerning! Be encouraged!
