The New Birth Series: Part One (John 3:1-8)

What is the new birth? Jesus tells us, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:5-6). It’s neither the changing of anything in a person, nor is it the removal of anything from a person; it is when the Holy Spirit implants an entirely new nature within a person, cleanses them from sin, and gives them eternal life to enter God's kingdom. Birth in the spiritual realm is exactly what it is in the physical—it’s the gateway of life, the beginning of a new existence (see 2 Corinthians 5:17).
