The New Birth Series: Part Four (John 3:1-8)

It’s noteworthy that Jesus didn’t give a direct, literal answer to Nicodemus’s questions (John 3:4). Instead Jesus addressed the deeper spiritual reality behind his questions by shifting the focus from physical logic to spiritual rebirth. Jesus knew the heart of Nicodemus and came to the core of his problem, which was need for spiritual life produced by the Holy Spirit. There’s no spiritual life in Nicodemus! Spiritually, he is dead. He needs new life. Apart from being born again, we’re all like Nicodemus. The idea that everyone is a child of God is foreign to the Bible! Jesus said, “You must be born again” (John 3:7).
