From The heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible Teacher & Expositor. If you’re not going to a place that’s teaching sound biblical doctrine, I have two words for you: Stay home! Someone may respond, how are we to know whether or not the teaching is sound? Here’s the answer. Apostle Luke says, “The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so” (Acts 17:10-11). This passage describes the Berean believers as “more noble-minded” than the Thessalonians because they received the message with “great eagerness” and examined (carefully searched) the Scriptures daily to verify its truth. The word “noble” means worthy of honor. In other words, when we examine what we’re being taught from the Bible, God looks at it as honorable! The Bereans’ response to study for themselves is unique, honorable, and admirable (1 John 4:1). They study what Paul teaches to them, checking Paul's message for accuracy, and find he's right. Your move! Be encouraged!
