Spiritual Sustenance vs. Physical Bread

The Bible shifts the focus from physical food (which only sustains the body temporarily) to spiritual “food” that sustains the soul for eternity. The foundation of this idea is found where Jesus says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Scripture is described as “milk” for new believers and “meat” for the mature, (1 Corinthians 3:2 and Hebrews 5:11–6:12). Neglecting it leads to spiritual malnourishment. Jesus as the “Bread of Life” (John 6:35), identifies Himself as the true source of life, stating that whoever comes to Him will never hunger or thirst spiritually. This suggests that serving God and following His purpose is a form of nourishment that provides unique strength. These teachings discuss the biblical meaning of diet as encompassing spiritual and physical nourishment, as well as obedience to God's will. Be encouraged!
