Spiritual power & the discipleship connection (Conclusion)

Our Lord’s teaching on spiritual power & the discipleship connection is found in John 15:1-8. This passage can be rightly understood as a metaphor for the relationship between a disciple and his Lord. This is made very clear by the words that conclude the vine/branch conversation: “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples” (John 15:8). Unlike the salvation relationship, the discipleship relationship can be lost: “If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned” (John 15:6). Being “thrown away like a branch” means to lose the disciple/Teacher relationship. Be encouraged!
