From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D. I send a shoutout to this particular woman because of her unabashed (without embarrassment or shame) gratefulness to Jesus and her heart of love towards Him in response to His unconditional love for her (Mark 14:3-9; Matthew 26:6-13). Apostle John makes the powerful assertion that “we love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Since love originates with God, then the one who is walking with God should be demonstrating love toward Him. The lesson was to show Simon the Pharisee that this woman loved much because she was forgiven much. Jesus forgave her. She was no longer an unclean sinner, but now His humble and loving servant, and He commended her for her tender act of love and devotion. Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.” This is what extravagant love looks like!. The story of the alabaster box carries profound implications about devotion, sacrifice, and the recognition of true spiritual value. It challenges readers to evaluate their priorities and calls them to a higher standard of love and worship. Ultimately, this act of breaking the alabaster box serves as an enduring testament to the beauty of wholehearted devotion to God. The act of anointing Jesus with expensive ointment demonstrates a level of devotion that transcends social norms and practical considerations. In both Mark 14:3-9 and Matthew 26:6-13, the woman’s actions are portrayed as expressing profound love and reverence for Jesus. Be encouraged!
