The following is excerpted from my introduction: “Tragically, our performance-driven mindset often creeps into how we believe and interact with God. We treat believing God like an activity that’s tiring and demanding, and for that reason many of us secretly feel spiritually depleted, exhausted, and disconnected from the very God we love! On the night before He was to be crucified, Jesus gathered His disciples and gave them a beautiful invitation: “Abide in Me” (John 15:4). He didn’t command them to strive, or to manufacture fruit on their own. Instead, He invited them to rest in Him. Biblically, “abiding” and “resting in God” are deeply connected. It is the shift from striving for God to simply living with God. Abiding in Jesus is authentic Christianity.
