Heard someone say, “What exactly are we here for?”

Jesus walked this earth to show what God is like when He lives in man, and what man is like when God lives in Him. Biblically, we’re here to know and glorify God, and to experience a loving relationship with Him and others. Humanity was intentionally designed to reflect God’s character in the world. According to Genesis 1:26, humanity was created in the "image" and "likeness" of God. In other words, we are designed to be God's representatives on earth—acting with love, justice, creativity, and stewardship. This purpose is often obscured by a fallen and broken world. The book of Ecclesiastes famously notes that God has "set eternity in the hearts of men," meaning we have an innate longing for greater meaning, but we often try to fulfill it through temporary, worldly pursuits.
