From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D., Bible teacher & expositor. We read, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Heb. 1:1–2). Today, many believers are looking for a word from God! They’ve said to me, “If only God would speak to me!” They say, “If only I could get a word from God about this or that situation!” They’re looking for God to speak other than by His Word! While God can speak in many ways, He has not promised to speak any other way than by His Word! We can’t exercise biblical faith in what God hasn’t promised! God has spoken finally and definitely in His Son, Jesus! The truth of the matter is that there is but one place to find revelation from God—the Bible. In Hebrews 1:2, the phrase “in these last days has spoken to us in His Son” means that God has made His final revelation to humanity through Jesus. This signifies that Jesus is the definitive and complete communication of God, surpassing all previous forms of speaking. In other words, the Bible is the only infallible authority for believers. Social media is full of people who claim to speak for God. They claim that God “spoke to them!” They say, “God said this or that.” This type of thinking and believing is marked by inconsistency, disharmony, confusion, chaos, and  contradiction. God’s not speaking by them, He’s speaking by His Word. If God said this or that, go find it in His Word, and then examine it thoroughly with Scripture (Acts 17:11). If you desire for God to speak to you, read His Word! Be encouraged!
