We read, “Then his wife said to him, ‘Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die! He replied, ‘You are speaking as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we actually accept good from God but not accept adversity?’ Despite all this, Job did not sin with his lips” (Job 2:9-10). Job spoke these words after losing everything. His children were gone. His wealth had vanished. Job’s health was damaged by severe, painful sores that covered his entire body. His wife, standing in her own unbearable grief, urged him to curse God and die. He asked a question that still echoes through every season of suffering and loss! Job didn't pretend to have clarity he did not have. He simply refused to let suffering be the final word on who God is! Job's statement was not a denial of his suffering. It was a refusal to abandon God because of it. There is a profound difference between the two.
