Does God Exist? (Part Two)

From the desk of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D. For those who question the existence of God, what about the evidence and reasoning of human logic? Let’s examine the evidence of human logic which is correct reasoning, as it involves the drawing of simple inferences. An inference is an idea or conclusion that's drawn from evidence and reasoning. For example, if today is Monday, then you may infer that it is not Sunday! One logical suggestion of God’s existence considers the principle of cause and effect. Cause and effect is the relationship between two things when one thing makes something else happen. Each effect is the result of some cause. Because of cause and effect, logic demands something eternally existent and that is not itself the effect of anything else. Someone must have caused the world to exist. The cause is God, the effect is the world. Our universe, clearly, is not eternal or uncaused. Logic points to God: the uncreated, eternal measure of all other things, the First Cause of our reality. Another logical suggestion of God’s existence considers the structure of the universe points to intelligent design. We know from our own experience that such things as books and art only come from one source, a mind. So, when we see intentionally designed systems, purposefully arrangement of parts, we know that at an intelligent agent, a mind, must be the cause. Intelligent design simply says that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause. The largest galactic configurations, our solar system, our DNA, subatomic particles—everything gives the appearance of having been purposefully designed and arranged. This trait is so strong that even hardened atheists have difficulty explaining away the appearance of design. Nothing about subatomic particles or forces indicates they must be arranged as they are. However, if they were not exactly as they are, human life would not be possible. The human DNA molecule infers intelligent action. It represents a coding structure beyond the ability of the best and brightest human engineers. The weight of this evidence, logically, favors the idea of an Intelligent Designer—God—as an explanation! Be encouraged!
