In part one, we looked at the “priority” of the biblical man. Let’s continue discussing the principle of priority. We said, the man being made first was similar to God laying the foundation of the human family. The priority in building doesn’t start with the walls, windows, or the roof. It starts with the foundation! Likewise, God started building humanity like any other builder. The Bible emphasizes the priority and importance God places on building from the foundation up. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus describes what we’re building our lives on (foundation) as our foremost priority. The primary message of Matthew’s passage is that merely hearing Jesus's words is not enough; one must also act on them to have a secure foundation in life. This is about having a foundation strong enough to withstand the difficulties and hardships of life. Paul mentions Jesus as being a foundation. He said, “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). In other words, we’ve seen that God doesn’t think of foundations in terms of water and concrete only, but also in terms of people. The verse is part of a broader passage (1 Corinthians 3:10–17) where Paul uses a building metaphor to discuss how Christians build upon Christ. When God began building the human race, He began by laying the foundation of the man. This teaches that society will only be as strong as its men. When men don’t understand and embrace what it means to be a strong foundation in Jesus, then society continues to be on shaky ground. Apart from Jesus, men have cracks in the foundation of their lives and the entire building of humanity rests on a situation that is unstable, insecure, and it is likely to fail or collapse. Be encouraged!
