Biblical Manhood (Part One)

What is a biblical man? It’s someone who understands the reality of who he is and who lives in that reality. This knowing begins with understanding the importance of being created purposefully by God. Whenever men are not aware of their God-given identity, it affects not only their own callings and fulfillment, but also that of their families and of society as a whole. This is because, as the man goes, so goes the family, society, and the world! Scripture tells us, “Many plans are in a man’s heart, But the counsel of the LORD will stand” (Proverbs 19:21). In other words, many are our opinions of what a biblical man should be, but the Lord’s purpose is the only one that counts, and this purpose is the key to the biblical man’s fulfillment. Based on the teaching of the Bible, the biblical man’s purpose may be summarized as “his priority, his position, and his assignment.” Let’s examine the man’s priority. Priority simply means something that must be dealt with before other things. This begs the question, why did God make the man first? Certainly, it wasn’t because the man was better! It was because of the man’s purpose! Moses tell us, “Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). The man was made first, and there was a pause of time before the woman was made (Genesis 2:21-23). When God created the woman, He didn’t go back to the “dust from the ground.” Why? Because He already had the foundation of the man in place! He didn’t need two foundations! She was made from the side of the man. Only the man came directly from the dust from the ground. This was because the man was designed by God to be the foundation of the human family! The woman came from the man instead of the ground because she was designed to rest on the man as her support! Be encouraged!
