From the heart of Dr. Robert L. Taylor, Th.D. What were we made for? To intimately know God! What aim should we set ourselves in life? To intimately know God! What is the eternal life that Jesus gives? Intimate knowledge of God: ‘This is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, delight, and contentment, than anything else? Intimate knowledge of God! We read, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,’ declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 9:23-24). God delights and takes pleasure in being intimate with His children. Once we become aware that the main business that we’re here for is to intimately know God, life’s struggles and problems fall into place of their own accord. Key points about the value of intimate knowledge of God: It goes beyond just intellectual understanding and involves a profound personal connection with God, allowing for trust, love, and reliance on His presence. A deep relationship with God can provide a strong sense of meaning and purpose in life, guiding decisions and actions. Knowing God intimately can offer comfort and peace in times of difficulty, providing a source of strength and solace. Continuously seeking to deepen one’s understanding of God fosters personal spiritual maturity and development. What makes life meaningful and worthwhile is having a big enough objective, something which catches our imagination and lays hold of our allegiance; and this the Christian has, in a way that no other person has. For what higher, more exalted, and more compelling goal can there be than to intimately know God? It just doesn’t get any better! Be encouraged!
