Biblical discernment is the God-given ability to separate truth from error, protect the mind from unsound teaching, and view life from God’s perspective [1 John 4:1, Hebrews 5:14]. Here is how it works: The Holy Spirit reveals spiritual realities that human intellect alone cannot grasp (1 Corinthians 2:14). The Standard: Scripture is the ultimate, objective yardstick used to examine all teachings (Acts 17:11). The Process: Believers actively test teachings rather than blindly accepting them (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The Growth: Discernment is a spiritual muscle developed through constant practice and obedience (Hebrews 5:14). The Outcome: True discernment produces Christlike character and visible spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23) that enables the believer to walk just as Jesus walked (1 John 2:6).
