It's A Matter of Faith And Trust

Allow me to speak to all my brothers and sisters in Christ! The Bible tells of a man named Job, who suffered horrific and dreadful things! When he questioned God about why this had happened, God responded, but, in His response, God did not answer Job’s question. Instead, God asked Job a series of questions. The purpose of God’s questions was to cause Job to understand and embrace that the One who created all things certainly knows what He’s doing in Job’s life without ever having to explain anything to him! It’s a matter of trust and faith! If we’re being honest, we must admit we really know very little about how God operates, and why He does what He does!

I find that reading this part of the book of Job (38-42) to be an awe-inspiring and humbling experience. We too wonder why we suffer. For those who know little of God, the question is troubling! Those who know how God has revealed Himself to humanity over time can cite His character, and His track record of faithfulness, as evidence that He can be trusted even though we may suffer. Christians read in the New Testament that suffering produces character, which leads, in the end, to hope (Romans 5). It seems strange that suffering would lead to hope however, in my experience, suffering makes us ask important questions! I’m referring to questions that should lead us to the same conclusion that Job himself came to: that God knows what He’s doing, He knows all the affairs of life and that we can trust Him. Is that enough for us to trust God during the things we encounter in this life? It was for Job who suffered the loss of his children, his possessions, and his health! Are we content with hearing nothing from God concerning our suffering? Our brother Job was! God is in complete control over what's happening in our lives be it good, bad or indifferent! Though God never answered Job's questions about his suffering, He did vindicate Job's integrity and righteousness before Him! God will show Heaven and earth that a person can serve Him simply out of love for Him, and that righteousness alone will keep a person faithful to God, through the greatest sufferings! How about us? Praise God forevermore! Be encouraged!
