God’s Final Revelation (The Word of God!)

We read, (1) “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, (2) in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Heb. 1:1–2).

Today, many who call themselves Christ followers are looking for a word from God! They’ve said to me, “If only God would speak to me!” They say, “If only I could get a word from God!” They’re looking for what they believe is “special revelation” from God. They’re looking for God to speak other than by His Word! While God can speak in many ways, He has not promised to speak other than by His Word! We can’t exercise biblical faith in what God hasn’t promised! God has spoken finally and definitely in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ! The truth of the matter is that there is but one place to find special revelation—the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We call it the doctrine of sola Scriptura: the only source of special revelation for the church today is the Bible; thus, the Bible is the only infallible authority for the church. Praise God forevermore! Many people today claim to be apostles. They call themselves “apostle this” and "apostle that!” They claim to have special revelation from God that’s not found in God’s Word! They claim that God “spoke to them!” This type of thinking and believing is marked by inconsistency, disharmony, confusion, conflict, contradiction, and chaos. To be an apostle, one must be an eyewitness of Jesus’ resurrection or be confirmed as an apostle by other resurrection eyewitnesses (Acts 1:12–26; Gal. 1:18–2:10). This is not possible in our time, so there are no living apostles giving us special revelation. We must be content with what we have—the apostolic, prophetic, and authoritative words of Scripture! To look beyond these for a word from God is to look in vain. Be encouraged! Your move!
